When my husband and I first moved into our house in February, we immediately started thinking about building a chicken coop. We had exchanged hellos a few times and they brought over a housewarming plate of cookies, but as winter thawed into spring we wanted to get to know them better. I knocked on the door and after some small talk I said to Matt, “We are thinking about building a chicken coop and wondered if you’d be interested in being part of it.” Matt shouted over his shoulder, “Hey, Marissa, come here, you’re gonna want to hear this,” and the rest is coop co-op history. During my presentation I’ll share what we did to share the planning, design and building, and how the coop co-op has evolved with new owners of that next door house. I’ll share photos and all the considerations we made so that both families had an equal stake. And if anyone wants, I’ll share the Google SketchUp plans that you can use or start with and modify to suit your property and flock needs.
